Hewlett-Packard has shipped its first Gigabit Ethernet over copper (1000Base-T) adapters.
According to Rob Schroenn, marketing programmes manager at HP Enterprise Computing Solutions (ECS) South Africa, the HP Gigabit Ethernet host bus adapter is available worldwide for HP 9000 PCI-based enterprise servers.
The HP adapter supports Category 5 and Category 5e (enhanced) cabling standards. The adapter automatically detects among 10/100/1000Base-T networks.
The HP 1000Base-T LAN adapter is also supported by HP`s Auto-Port Aggregation (APA) software. Up to 32 100Base-T or 1000Base-T links can be logically aggregated to form a single high bandwidth channel with one IP address. APA automatically provides load balancing and link failover.
HP is also the first to support Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP), the IEEE 802.3ad standard for automatic configuration of link aggregation.
