Tarsus Technologies has announced the local availability of the HP StorageWorks P4000 G2 range of SAN solutions bringing cost-efficiency, reliability, performance and flexibility to IT environments where server virtualisation, a looming technology refresh cycle and rising costs are taking their toll.
The StorageWorks P4000 G2 range was designed for IT environments where there can be no compromise on data integrity and business continuity, but where cost-saving techniques such as server virtualisation, slowing data growth and replacing rapidly aging IT infrastructure with newer, more efficient solutions are being pursued.
“And in this regard, the P4000 really does bring the best of all worlds to the fore,” says Greg Pothitos, HP ESSN business unit head at Tarsus.
Solving one of the most common IT department gripes, to ease the budgeting process and keep IT spend predictable, HP's StorageWorks P4000 features a three-year, support-included 'pay-as-you-grow' pricing model.
“This sees customers being able to add capacity to their SAN as and when their needs dictate, at predictable price points, without impacting their support agreements,” Pothitos explains.
“Generally, however, that capability isn't available to customers without some form of trade-off - either in terms of uptime or performance,” he adds.
“Because of the StorageWorks P4000 G2's intuitive storage management software and cutting-edge hardware design, there's no compromise in either of these areas when swapping out failed components, adding capacity to the storage pool or reconfiguring resources for better efficiency,” he says.
Already, Pothitos says some impressive results have been achieved - both on the pricing and the performance fronts - using the StorageWorks P4000 G2 range.
“On the pricing front, HP says that customers who opted for a P4500 G2 28.8TB SAS SAN configured for server virtualisation have reported a 13% lower acquisition cost and 35% lower cost per GB over competitive 8Gbps SAN offerings,” he says.
“Using a similar configuration, namely a P4500 G2 120TB MDL SAS SAN configured for scalable capacity, customers have reported a 25% better cost per GB ratio for large Windows, Linux and Unix data volumes.
“And the best part is, the entire 120TB SAN fits into no more than 10Us worth of rack space,” he adds.
Looking at performance and capacity, Pothitos says he has seen further examples where an HP P4800 BladeSystem SAN has been used for client virtualisation deployments that service more than 1 400 productivity users.
“All of these facts lead us to one place,” he says.
“The StorageWorks P4000 G2 is one of the most versatile and innovative storage solutions the market has seen in a long time and for that reason, there can be no doubt of the success it's likely to achieve,” he concludes.
