Customers these days are looking for solutions that remove the layers of complexity and excess equipment that have sprawled across their environments so IT can focus on innovation rather than operations.
This is the view of Dave Donatelli, executive VP and GM of enterprise servers, storage and networking at HP, speaking at the company's Tech Forum event held in Las Vegas last week.
With this in mind, the company's new server, storage, network and power management technologies aim to enable clients to shift millions of dollars in operational costs to activities that drive business innovation. According to HP, it is building on its converged infrastructure technology unveiled earlier this year.
One of the new offerings is a multiprotocol technology HP says can connect servers to any network. Dubbed HP Virtual Connect, the module is a single device that connects servers to a fibre channel, Ethernet or iSCSI network, and allows connectivity to be changed on the fly.
“This eliminates the need for multiple interconnects. With this technology, clients can eliminate up to $185 000 in network equipment costs per rack.”
HP says the FlexFabric technology is built into the company's recently introduced ProLiant G7 server blades. “Virtual Connect can reduce network equipment by up to 95% by saving on other networking costs such as switches, adapters, cables, power and cooling and suchlike.”
The company says it plans to bolster its converged infrastructure strategy throughout the year, with enterprise solutions across every area of the data centre, to bring greater levels of simplification and performance.
