HP trounces Dell in PC market
The research firm says in overall PC market in the December quarter, which includes both notebooks and desktops, HP bagged a market share of 17.3% in terms of sales, displacing Dell that held a 14.2% share. Acer with an 11.5% share came in at the third spot.
According to an analyst from IDC who spoke to The Financial Express newspaper, Dell suffered because of low exposure in the consumer business. He added that October-December being a holiday season, procurements from large businesses in India were down.
Dell has a huge exposure in the segment and on the low Dell sales HP gained advantage.

While desktop PCs reported 14% increase year-on-year at 14.5 lakh units, the sales of notebook computers grew at 49% to reach 10.4 lakh units for the quarter, said market research firm IDC in a study released here.
According to the Indian Express, the sales of notebook computers grew at 49% year-on-year (October to December 2010 over October to December 2009), to reach 10.4 lakh units for the quarter.
