HP unleashes federated storage software
As part of its converged storage portfolio, HP has released a federated storage software called Peer Motion, which enables admins to move application workloads between disk systems in virtualised and cloud computing environments, reports ComputerWorld.
HP also unveiled a storage array line, the P10000 3PAR Storage System, which is aimed at supporting public and private clouds with twice the capacity and port count of previous HP products.
Information Week says the HP P10000 3PAR Storage Systems (V-Class) comes in two models -the V400 and V800 - and is targeted at the largest enterprise-class virtual and cloud-based data centres that have unpredictable application workloads and multiple tenants.
It is designed for organisations that have virtualised their servers, implemented the cloud, and whose applications have a widely swinging utilisation.
The Register explains that HP's Peer Motion storage array federation stems from its acquisition of 3PAR. The solution can link multiple storage systems together and have them act and be managed as a single entity.
ZDnet reveals Catherine Campbell, HP's chief technology officer for storage in the UK, says: “There's still a challenge that the bigger your storage environment grows, the bigger your technical refresh challenge gets.
“The concept of Peer Motion and federated storage as a whole says to IT managers that you're not going to get stuck and you can get away from this big forklift transformation approach.”
