HP unveils service for mobile enterprise

Tech giant, HP has unveiled Mobile Applications Services, which are aimed at helping enterprises extend their solutions to mobile employees and consumers, eWeek reports.

According to HP, the services enable workers to access applications, data and business processes through any device and from any location.

HP, like many other tech vendors, is looking to help businesses deal with the rising trend of the consumerisation of IT, which results not only in more mobile workers, but also in employees who are using their own personal mobile devices - particularly smartphones and tablets, in a trend called 'bring your own device'.

“The consumerisation of IT is changing the way people work and interact with the companies with which they do business," said Srini Koushik, HP VP, worldwide applications development services, in a Billing World report.

“HP offers a complete suite of mobile services to help clients realise the full potential, and address the challenges, of this emerging environment,” he adds.

Mobile Enterprise says enterprise mobility management services, which include services to manage mobile apps, devices, content, network services, expenses, policy and security, will grow to $11 billion worldwide by 2016, according to ABI Research.

AT&T, Motorola Mobility and Samsung Mobile are rolling out products and services for managing mobility in the enterprise.

“Suppliers are adding enterprise mobility management services to their portfolio because of new revenue and services opportunities,” explains Dan Shey, practice director, mobile services, ABI Research. “But they are also jumping in out of fear.”
