HP announced updates to its Unix operating system to strengthen virtualisation in critical environments.
"Virtualisation is a proven path to improve resource utilisation, cost-efficiency and operational flexibility," says Mary-Ann Summerfield, technology solutions group mission-critical and technical services manager at HP.
According to her, these updates will result in enhanced performance, automated optimisation, improved protection and simplified management, all to strengthen virtualisation in mission-critical environments.
As part of their updates, the HP-UX 11iv3, along with the HP Virtual Server Environment, will now provide the user with improved control and require less administration, time and effort. The HP-UX 11iv3 will also provide up to a 50% performance improvement for Oracle applications and SAP applications at a lowered total cost of ownership.
Some of the updates to the HP-UX 11i v3 include the Integrity VM with accelerated I/O, Tune-n-Tools for Oracle; locality-optimised resource alignment for CPU, applications and memory; the Ktracer tracing tool; power saver; secure resource partitions; two-factor authentication; encrypted volume and file system; software assistant; and Metrocluster.
The updates will allow customers to achieve consolidation with virtualisation at a lower cost, while delivering the highest business value and lowest total cost of ownership available for enterprise Unix installations, Summerfield says.
