HP wins customers with open storage infrastructure solutions

Johannesburg, 29 Nov 2002

HP announced several new customers that have increased their ability to respond rapidly to changes in market conditions or customer demands with HP storage solutions. The companies, Health Net, Independence Blue Cross and Siemens Westinghouse, have recently selected HP as their storage partner to develop and expand open storage infrastructures.

"Representing multiple industry segments, these wins are a clear indicator of the business advantage that customers can achieve with controllable, resilient and extensible networked storage solutions from HP," said Howard Elias, senior vice-president and general manager, HP Network Storage Solutions. "We are especially pleased to demonstrate continued customer success in heterogeneous storage environments during these challenging economic times."

Details of the new wins include:

* Health Net, one of the nation`s largest publicly traded managed health care companies, purchased $1 million in networked storage from HP this quarter.

* Independence Blue Cross recently signed an agreement with HP for phase one of its storage implementation which includes virtualisation, storage management and data migration software.

* Siemens Power Generation Group, a global leader in the power industry, recently purchased a new HP StorageWorks XP1024 disk array. The agreement includes software, director and professional services to support the new 13-terabyte system. Siemens offers a full spectrum of innovative, environmentally friendly, cost-effective power generation products and services, including gas and steam turbine-generator technology; world-class process control and power management systems; operations and maintenance support; power plant modernisation and upgrades; and fuel cells for the distributed generation market.

According to IDC, with HP and Compaq revenues combined, HP storage is ranked number one in Disk Storage Systems Factory Revenue, Second Quarter 2002, with revenues of $1.171 million and a 25% market share. (1)
