HP's ALM 11 boosts security

As HP places its stake deeper into the software business with its new Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) 11 offering, the company is also making a stronger play with its services component, branching into the cloud and beefing up its solutions, states eWeek.

In an interview with eWeek, Robin Purohit, vice-president and general manager of HP's business technology optimisation offerings for HP Software, said: “HP is taking a very business solutions focus for the enterprise business by re-engineering applications to the enterprise world.”

Purohit said HP is doing this by delivering “modern consumer-like experiences” and using modern application software technologies, such as Web 2.0 technologies and protocols like HTML5.

WhiteHat deploys scale-out storage

Isilon scale-out storage has been deployed by WhiteHat Security to power its software-as-a-service-based Web site risk management solution, reports Info Tech.

The development in this regard was made by the provider of scale-out storage, Isilon. WhiteHat unified its IT infrastructure using Isilon's X-Series. The company will now be able to better manage over 2 900 Web sites on a single, shared storage resource.

Service reliability and efficiency will also be improved as the management has been simplified. Ten million HTTP requests per day can now be processed by WhiteHat with Isilon.

Lawyers move to the cloud

Law firms are putting their e-mail systems in the cloud to cut costs and ensure they adhere to tough data protection regulations, reveals Computer Weekly.

Information sent and received by firms is not only business critical, but often highly sensitive. As a result, security, storage and reliability are necessities for any e-mail system. This has led to IT departments buying separate systems to provide security, archiving and back-up.

Cloud service provider Mimecast, which was introduced in 2005 and was ranked third in Deloitte's Technology Fast 50 report this year, recognised this and targeted law firms with its e-mail management in the cloud service. It bundles services that replace the multiple third-party systems, providing archiving, security and continuity, that sit alongside an e-mail system.
