Chinese smart device maker Huawei this afternoon unveiled its flagship P8 smartphone - a 5.2-inch handset that sports a full metal unibody and a sleek design measuring 6.4mm thick.
The device, unveiled by Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu, at an event in London, follows on from the company's highly-popular Ascend P7 handset that came to market last year.
"Huawei has seamlessly combined the best elements of style and durability, delivering a revolutionary user experience - especially in terms of camera capabilities and network connectivity," said Yu.
Yu presentation focused heavily on showcasing the P8's advanced camera features, explaining camera design included elements of hardware, software and proprietary algorithms, allowing for good quality photographs to be taken in poor-light conditions.
The handset boasts an eight-megapixel front-facing camera and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera that features Optical Image Stabilizer technology up to 1.2^0 that enables the taking of high-quality photos and videos, and manages camera shake so images are consistently sharp.
Yu also highlight the fact that the camera features "the world's first" four-colour RGBW sensor, which enhances brightness by 32% in high-contrast lighting scenarios and reduces it by 78% in low-light.
The P8 handset is powered by a 64-bit, 2GHz octa-core Kirin 930 CPU, and comes with 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 2680mAh battery and accommodate two 4G SIMs.
Yu noted that the handset is available in four colour options - silver, gold, black and grey - and boasts a "revolutionary" touch screen experience. He demonstrated that by double-tapping a knuckle, the phone captures a full-length screen shot, while drawing a circle on the screen captures content.
Huawei has released two versions of the P8 - the standard device, retailing for EUR499 (R6 400), and the premium device, retailing for EUR599 (R7 700).
The Huawei P8 will initially be available in more than 30 countries including China, Columbia, France, Germany, Mexico, Spain, SA, Turkey, UAE and the UK.
Huawei P8max
Yu also unveiled the P8max "phablet", a device featuring a larger 6.8-inch screen, longer battery life and a camera with light tracing for any environment.
The P8max also includes ID design and light painting capabilities of the Huawei P series devices, which Yu said deliver more fun to consumers through Huawei's new large screen smartphones.
The large 4360 mAh battery features Huawei's power saving and power consumption management technology that delivers improved battery life, allowing users to watch downloaded video for over 15 consecutive hours.
The device features a five-megapixel front and 13-megapixel rear cameras, the latter being equipped with a professional-grade Image Signal Processor and dual-tone flash to bring out true colour in night photos.
The Huawei P8max device will also be immediately available in more than 30 countries including China, Columbia, France, Germany, Mexico, Spain, SA, Turkey, UAE and the UK. The P8max will costs EUR549 (R7 100) for the 16G version and EUR649 (R8 400) for the 64GB version.
