Huawei unveils world's slimmest smartphone
PCMag reports.
"We're excited to unveil the world's slimmest smartphone here at CES 2012," said Richard Yu, chairman of Huawei. Yu claims that innovative moulding and injection, along with customised components, a robust metal frame and Corning Gorilla Glass, has made it possible to manufacture such a thin device.
Both handsets have a 4.3-inch, 960 x 540 super Amoled qHD display protected by Corning's hardened Gorilla Glass, and the PS 1 manages to stuff that display into a body that's just 6.48mm wide. At that width, the metal-frame bezel on the right and left of the display is exceptionally thin, The Register says.
Both phones provide a broad range of UMTS/GSM 3G and HSPA+ 4G connectivity capabilities, and Yu promised that his company's 20 years-plus experience in mobile infrastructure gives it a leg up in providing quick, clear connections. "We know the network," Yu noted, modestly.
Yu said he expected the Ascend P1S, which is powered by the latest generation of Google's Android software, to go on sale in Europe in March and the following month in the rest of the world, including the US, The Sydney Morning Herald notes.
He said the company was still negotiating prices with telcos, but he expected the device to sell for around $400.
