A major French telecoms company has appointed a new South African partner to distribute its range of enterprise products and solutions.
Hymax SA (Pty) Ltd announced that it has been appointed business partner to French telecommunications multinational, Alcatel, this week.
"The appointment with Alcatel is proof that our strategy to reposition Hymax as a major player, offering full service telecommunications solutions in the corporate and SME markets, has paid off," said CEO, John Van den Munckhof.
"Alcatel is the number one provider of IP corporate telephony in Europe, the Middle East and Africa with a wide range of products and solutions. Alcatel was impressed with our national footprint and saw Hymax`s long-term strategy as a major force in the industry that would add value to their operation in SA," he said.
Van den Munckhof said Hymax had been appointed as an official South African business partner of Alcatel after the French company`s exclusive deal with another company expired, and it announced it was to move to a multi-distribution model in SA.
Alcatel`s Gary McHugh says the telecoms giant was looking for a business partner that could expand its enterprise and SMB solutions market.
"Hymax was able to offer us a multi-distribution channel network and we`re giving them access to strong products and a direct relationship with Alcatel," McHugh said.
Because of the scope of Hymax`s reseller base, staff and resellers will be going through extensive training.
"It`s an unusual situation as training is normally done in France. But because of the size of Hymax`s operation, we are looking to deliver training programmes locally," said McHugh.
Alcatel is investigating setting up an Alcatel University in SA - there are 14 around the world - either by piggybacking a programme through an existing establishment or starting from scratch.
Alcatel Universities provide high quality training and development for customers, organisations and employees. The training environment supports current business needs by enabling employees and customers to continuously upgrade their skills to keep pace in today`s competitive environment.
The reason, says McHugh, is that the company intends making a `stronger drive` into Africa once the South African end of the operation is running smoothly.
* Van den Munckhof also confirmed that Hymax SA has been appointed by Telkom to resell Telkom products such as ISDN, ADSL, satellite and Diginet access technologies.
