I-mate is re-affirming its commitment to support growing mobile technology in Africa by hosting a stand at the second annual GSM East and Central Africa Conference to be held in Kenya from 16 to 17 May.
The conference aims to help distributors to widen their market in the East and Central African mobile arena, and is the only GSM event in this region, covering the latest developments in the mobile market.
Says Quinton Leigh, managing director of Leaf Wireless, the exclusive distributor of i-mate products in Sub-Saharan Africa: "The African mobile market is expanding rapidly, and the GSM conference is aimed at putting mobile operators and distributors in a position to take advantage of this growth."
He adds: "Leaf Wireless, in conjunction with various partners, currently distributes i-mate products in several countries across Africa, including Botswana, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Mozambique. The conference is an excellent opportunity to not only maintain and grow existing relationships, but also to expand distribution further into Africa."
Steffan de Rosario, Sales Director of Carrier Devices for the Middle East and Africa, the manufacturer of the i-mate range, comments: "Users of our devices in many African countries have not always had the standard of support we would ideally like them to have. Leaf is committed to bringing Africa up to international standard in the mobile arena, and is able to provide the level of service that an i-mate user might expect, no matter where in Africa they are."
The GSM East and Central Africa Conference will showcase the latest products and technologies available in the region, and Leaf Wireless will use the conference as a platform to launch an exciting new product, the i-mate Smartflip phone.
The Smartflip has all of the functionality users have come to expect from i-mate, and a little bit extra. The Smartflip, which runs under the Windows Mobile 5.0 platform, is the thinnest i-mate yet, and will have all of the usual features such as Bluetooth, EDGE and MicroSD memory, as well as GSM/GPRS connectivity, a camera, and last but by no means least Microsoft Media player.
Price will be in the mid-$600 (US) range and the phone will be available from June. More details will be available at the conference, when the phone is officially released.
With more than a dozen industry-leading guest speakers, four interactive panel sessions including a session dedicated to international connectivity, and the latest in product and technology on display, the 2006 GSM East and Central Africa conference is a must for mobile operators in Africa as well as those wishing to expand.
