iAnywhere Solutions, the mobile and wireless subsidiary of Sybase, has introduced iAnywhere Mobile Mail.
This out-of-the-box solution enables "always available" access to enterprise e-mail, calendar, contact and task information from Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange using handheld devices.
The addition of these capabilities to iAnywhere Solutions' m-Business platform addresses organisations' mobile enterprise needs, from e-mail and professional productivity information to line-of-business applications such as sales force automation, field service and CRM (customer relationship management).
"iAnywhere Mobile Mail complements our mobile database and synchronisation technology," says Deon Engelbrecht, iAnywhere channel manager. "The combination enables organisations to work with iAnywhere Solutions for software and support to simplify the implementation and deployment of their entire m-business strategy."
Research and consulting firm Meta Group says e-mail will be a cornerstone of the wireless wave, a "starter" application that will lead to the deployment of further mission-critical line-of-business applications. As the market evolves, wireless e-mail and personal information management (PIM) will be just one component of ever more sophisticated mobile and wireless enterprise solutions - providing mobile workers with all the information needed to make critical decisions.
iAnywhere Mobile Mail enables on-the-go executives, line-of-business managers and mobile workers to access and respond to their e-mail and professional productivity information from a variety of wireless devices, accelerating communication, decision-making and customer responsiveness within an organisation.
"It provides users with the ability to work offline so they have 'always available' access to their information, even while out of network range," adds Engelbrecht. "This helps reduce communication costs while increasing application performance and battery life."
Mobile Mail's key features include:
* The ability to read and queue e-mail messages offline, ensuring always available access to professional productivity information, even without a network connection.
* Advanced filter settings that allow users to customise what data is actually synchronised each time.
* Set-up and management tools that simplify administration for any number of users.
* End-to-end security using Certicom's 128-bit encryption and advanced user authentication.
* Flexible connectivity options, including wireless, dial-up, and cradle synchronisation.
iAnywhere Mobile Mail provides secure, direct server-based synchronisation via wireless, dial-up or cradle to a variety of handheld devices running Palm, Windows CE, Pocket PC or EPOC operating systems. One-button synchronisation allows users to access up-to-the-minute information from a variety of enterprise e-mail systems, including Lotus Notes, Microsoft Exchange, and IMAP4 or POP3-compliant systems such as Novell GroupWise.
