IBM 6400 solves year end print woes

Johannesburg, 01 Dec 1999

As the year end approaches, print volumes are set to soar. Tarsus Technologies, the distribution arm of MB Technologies, has the answer to increased print requirements with the IBM 6400 family, a suite of impact printers specifically designed for high-volume printing environments. "These printers provide a variety of emulations and options for attaching to virtually any IBM or non-IBM system," says Justine Jobe, product manager for IBM PDAs, printers and peripherals at Tarsus.

Key features: IBM 6400 Line Matrix Printer:

  • Reliable printing at up to 500, 1000 or 1500 lpm, depending on model

  • Easy-to-use operator panel with an 80-character display

  • Streamlined paper-handling functions simplify operations and accommodate application changes

  • Bar code support

  • Label stock and up to six-part forms capabilities

  • Management capabilities provided by 6400 Printer Management Utility

  • Multiple graphics options, including IBM Intelligent Printer Stream, IGP and Code V emulation features (both Printronix versions)

  • Supported by Infoprint Manager

  • Designed for easy installation

The IBM 6400 family is available in two configurations - an open pedestal or an enclosed cabinet. The open pedestal design minimizes floor space requirements and maximizes access to forms. "The enclosed cabinet models provide acoustic levels quieter than most line printers, making them suitable for most business environments," concludes Jobe
