IBM builds smart cities
The enterprise vendor has positioned its initiatives under its broad 'Smarter Planet' label, a prominent theme at the IBM Pulse conference in Las Vegas this week.
The new applications include analytics for monitoring networks, smart meter network management, real-time asset location for the healthcare industry, and monitoring and analysis, says Greenbang.
By collecting large amounts of data, which can be used for analytics, IBM argues that companies can have a better insight into real-time decision making, reveals Computing.co.uk.
"Day-by-day things become more interconnected. People, systems and objects can interact with each other in entirely new ways," notes Scott Hebner, IBM vice-president for integrated service management.
In an Industry Week report, Steve Mills, head of IBM Systems Business, indicates there will be a significant shift in IT spending over the next two decades. He predicts there will be three times more spending on analytical infrastructure.
