IBM extends software

IBM has made backup and recovery software for Microsoft SharePoint environments to help businesses protect, manage and restore business critical and applications available, reports SDA-Asia

The new Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) for Microsoft SharePoint provides backup and restore capability, which provides sharing of critical business data and support of Microsoft Office documents.

TSM helps reduce the linked to data loss while helping reduce complexity and manage costs.

Safeguarding against disasters

While hurricanes and other natural disasters steal headlines, it is everyday occurrences like computer viruses that have the potential to destroy a company, says INC.

Small businesses tend to review their disaster preparedness as hurricane season comes around. However, the need among businesses for round-the-clock access to customer, marketing, and financial data is making disaster planning less seasonal.

A survey by AT&T found 82% of SMEs ranked computer viruses, worms, and other network disruptions as the biggest risks to their businesses.

New options for System z

Brocade Communications Systems will be providing improved business continuity options for customers of the IBM System z. The new capabilities will allow IBM mainframe customers to reduce the complexity and cost of data centre and disaster recovery solutions, reports Computer Technology Review.

The new solution is enabled through software on its SAN (storage area network) director, switch, and router products.

It also allows System z customers to utilise cost-effective IP WAN links to transmit FICON (fibre connectivity) data over long distances.
