IBM, HP in server showdown

Leaders in India's computer server market, IBM and HP, coming out from a slump in 2009/2010, are chasing each others' customers and those of other companies, writes LiveMint.

While IBM is specifically targeting both HP's and Oracle's clients, HP is targeting IBM's and Oracle's clients through financing schemes to help its rivals' customers migrate to its own hardware platform.

The domestic server market is just recovering from the slowdown last fiscal, when it shrunk to around 2 679 rupees crore from 3 244 rupees crore a year ago, according to CyberMedia Research, which also owns market research firm IDC India.

MS offers MultiPoint tease

Microsoft has started offering a taste of the next major iteration of Windows MultiPoint Server, with the beta bits of the operating system now available for download, reports Softpedia.

Currently working on the successor of Windows MultiPoint Server 2010, the software giant is allowing early adopters to grab the beta of Windows MultiPoint Server 2011.

Downloads are now live on Microsoft Connect, but early adopters interested in taking the platform out for a spin will need to fill in a survey first, the report says, and only then will they be permitted access to the actual beta.
