IBM inks green centre deals

IBM has signed three green data centre deals in emerging markets, which officials say are adopting energy-efficient IT solutions more quickly than their more developed counterparts, according to eWeek.

IBM says about half of its green data centre revenue is coming in from outside the US.

Driving the demand is the high cost of power and the limited access in many of these regions, as well as their tendency to embrace new technologies.

China to clean up energy tech

Renewable energy stocks had a joyride for five straight days on speculation that US President Barack Obama's visit to China from 15 to 18 November will speed up Beijing's efforts to go clean, states Gulf News.

Most green technology-related stocks, such as nuclear and wind energy, rose last week with all 10 nuclear power companies' shares advancing.

Obama's visit will be tied to sustainable energy technologies and, according to analysts in Shanghai, this will give plenty of room for investors to speculate on related stocks.

Siemens chief wants green framework

Siemens' chief executive has urged political leaders to create a global framework for a "green wave of industrialisation" at next month's Copenhagen environmental summit, as he warned the world could not afford to fail to reach a deal, ninemsn reports.

Peter L"oscher's call came only days after a 175-nation meeting on climate change in Barcelona exposed a continuing rich-poor split and ended with little progress.

"We cannot afford to do nothing. My wish is that we come to a fair global framework. Green products are the lead technology of the 21st century. This is the third wave of industrialisation," L"oscher says.
