IBM keeps zEnterprise promise
The tech giant is also slapping some labels and new prices on the top-of-rack switches that it controls through last year's acquisition of Blade Network Technologies.
IBM is offering a price break on the switches it resells. The zEnterprise BladeCenter Extension, or zBX for short, is a BladeCentre chassis that has been coupled reasonably tightly with the mainframe's internal control networks, bringing the mainframe processing engines and external blades under the thumb of a single 'Unified Resource Manager control freak'.
According to Information Week, the zBX is used to add functionality to IBM's zEnterprise System mainframe, which was introduced in July 2010. In general, the zBX enables Power 7 and x86 IBM System x blade servers to be integrated with and managed from the mainframe.
The product adds support for IBM's WebSphere DataPower Integration Appliance X150z to a zEnterprise System.
Meanwhile, V3.co.uk says IBM is pitching the server and workload releases at organisations with over-burdened data centres looking for a way to increase efficiency, performance and optimisation while still gaining insights from the information.
