In response to customer demand for easy-to-deploy and flexible e-business solutions, IBM today announced the broadest transformation of its IBM eServer iSeries in more than a decade, combining mainframe-class technology with the pre-packaged simplicity required for mid-market customers.
The new IBM eServer iSeries allows customers to add new capacity on the fly, run up to 10 Linux servers on a single processor, and install IBM`s line-up of industry-leading e-business software for the price of a competitive Unix system with none of these features.
The relaunch is part of a two-year, $500 million initiative to re-energise one of the industry`s most popular servers. Used by more than 200 000 customers around the world, the IBM eServer iSeries has been consistently rated far-and-away the industry leader in customer satisfaction. The new systems include IBM`s leading-edge hardware and software technology, run multiple operating systems including Linux and OS/400, and offer small and medium businesses the ability to consolidate and manage Windows applications and data, thereby reducing cost and complexity.
"This is the most comprehensive reinvention of IBM eServer iSeries since its inception more than a decade ago," said Al Zollar, general manager, IBM eServer iSeries. "With its advanced virtualisation capabilities, industry-leading integration, support for open standards, and pace-setting autonomic capabilities, the IBM eServer iSeries now offers customers all the tools they need to respond to the world of on-demand business."
IBM offers a full line of data transaction, Web application and appliance servers that embrace industry standards. Powered by breakthroughs such as microprocessors with copper wiring and Silicon-on-Insulator technology, IBM servers have captured industry-leading benchmarks that measure transactions, Web serving capabilities and performance in software applications.
The IBM eServer line is an integral part of customised, flexible and scalable Internet solutions for companies of all sizes. Linux is capable of running on IBM`s entire eServer line.
The new IBM eServer iSeries models will be available on 21 February.
