IBM has been named the number one tape product vendor in the world for Q2 2007, based on branded tape revenue, according to IT market research and advisory firm International Corporation (IDC).

IBM captured 33.3% of the total branded tape revenue global market for the second quarter of 2007.

IDC`s report, "IDC Worldwide Branded Tape 2Q`07 Vendor Analysis", marks the 14th consecutive quarter that IBM has held this position. This makes it the only company to have this many consecutive quarters of brand tape revenue leadership, according to the report.

"Addressing different storage access and retention requirements today is a significant challenge for IT administrators," says Cindy Grossman, VP of tape storage solutions at IBM.

Exploiting a tiered storage hierarchy that includes disk, tape and virtualisation can significantly address this challenge, she notes.
