IBM server supports multiple JDE applications

Johannesburg, 19 Jun 2002

JD Edwards & Company recently announced the ability to run multiple JD Edwards enterprise software applications on a single IBM eServer x440, which is based on the Intel Xeon processor MP. For the first time, customers can consolidate JD Edwards software onto a single Intel-based system, significantly improving performance while reducing maintenance costs and lowering total cost of ownership.

The new `three-in-one` single server solution is designed for mid-sized businesses and departments of larger companies with limited budgets and/or legacy systems that want to avoid multiple servers in their IT infrastructures and their associated maintenance expenses.

"The IBM eServer xSeries x440 allows companies implementing or migrating to JD Edwards ERP software to run our applications, DB2 database and Web servers on just one server instead of as many as five," said Steve Maegdlin, senior director of product and industry marketing at JD Edwards.

"It allows us to provide customers unprecedented simplicity, scalability, availability and performance at a much more competitive price. This simplifies and reduces customers` maintenance, enables faster changes to the system with less downtime, lowers the up-front purchase price, and cuts ongoing IT expenses, all to make it easier for our customers to do business."

"JD Edwards software running on the IBM eServer x440 is an excellent combination for businesses looking to increase their processing power as their business grows," said Deepak Advani, vice president of High Performance IBM eServer xSeries servers. "The IBM eServer x440 allows them to do this. Our highly reliable, `building block` architecture lets customers buy only the performance capacity they need, when they need it, without investing in costly up-front infrastructure."

Powered by IBM Enterprise X-Architecture technology, the eServer x440 is designed to support up to 16 processors and 64GB of memory.

The x440 server, with powerful Intel Xeon processor MP technology, has been shown to support 200 simultaneous Web-connected users with an average response time of .66 seconds running all of these functions on a single Intel-based system.

"Faster performance translates into more transactions processed on fewer systems, and faster access to information," said JD Edwards` Maegdlin. "And faster access to e-business information translates into improved customer service, better supply chain management and faster decision-making."

"Enterprises of all sizes are facing the daunting challenge of increasing productivity by streamlining and extending their business processes while also enduring shrinking IT budgets. The joint collaboration among Intel, IBM and JD Edwards extends the enterprise agility delivered by JD Edwards collaborative enterprise solutions to a broader set of customers, via powerful Intel-based servers," said John Davies, vice president of Business Solutions, Intel Corporation.
