IBM strengthens management

IBM has acquired Intelliden, a developer of network management software, reports CRN.

Financial terms of the acquisition of the privately held Intelliden were not disclosed. Intelliden's network management software is used to automate the configuration of manually managed network devices such as hubs, routers and switches.

Such capabilities are needed to prevent network failures; IBM quoted analyst estimates that 60% of all network outages are caused by manual configuration errors.

Mobile management brings savings

Property service company King Sturge saved between £60 000 (R715 000) and £100 000 (R1.2 million) last year as a result of taking up a mobile management service provided by Orange, according to King Sturge IT director David Morris, states Computing.co.uk.

Morris says it was difficult to ascertain exactly how much money the company saved, because many of the savings were in staff time. King Sturge has 22 offices and 1 500 staff in the UK - with 1 300 mobile devices deployed across the company.

It began trialling the Orange service, named Total Resource, in August last year, and adopted the service permanently last month.

CA joins alliance

CA has joined the Cloud Alliance (CSA) as a corporate member to help establish and promote best practices for security in cloud computing, according to PRNewswire.

CA will support the CSA's initiatives and working groups with identity and access management knowledge and expertise, and provide input into the next release of the group's Security Guidance for Critical Areas of Focus in Cloud Computing.

"CA is working with enterprise customers and cloud service providers to securely adopt and deliver cloud services. We look forward to collaborating with the CSA members to deliver guidance for meeting security concerns that challenge cloud adoption," said Dave Hansen, corporate senior vice-president and GM of CA's security and compliance business unit.
