IBM takes on HP

The new IBM range of Nehalem-based x86 servers and blades could see Big Blue take market share off HP, according to analysts, says Reseller News.

IBM's four new models are the BladeCentre HS22, System x3650 M2 and x3550 M2, and System x iDataPlex dx360 M2.

The range is based on Intel's Xeon 5500 series processor and aims to ease the adoption of virtualisation, simplify the management process and reduce operational costs for organisations.

Parallels intros 3D workstation virtualisation

Parallels has introduced virtualisation software that can consolidate several workstations into one physical system, reports vnunet.

The tool could save users such as graphics professionals the expense of having to run two or more costly systems for high-end applications.

Available within six weeks, Parallels Workstation Extreme makes use of features in Intel's new Nehalem-based Xeon chips to deliver a dedicated graphics adapter to each virtual machine in a workstation, allowing demanding applications to run without any compromise on performance, according to Parallels.

Verizon incorporates virtualisation

Verizon Business says it is helping customers achieve the full benefits of virtualisation, high performance, flexibility, cost control and energy savings, through an expanded suite of consulting and management services for virtualisation, a fast-growing approach to optimising computing resources, states CIO.

Verizon Business' virtualisation consulting and management services enable customers to out-task the design and often complex day-to-day management, maintenance and of virtualised environments.

The services, which include the entire product life cycle, from assessment and design to implementation, audit, management and review, are available to businesses in countries around the globe.
