IBM`S latest printers offer unprecedented quality and speed for e-businesses

Johannesburg, 17 Oct 2000

With new additions to both its Infoprint 2000 and Infoprint 4000 families of printers, IBM directly addresses the output needs of e-business.

Able to accept native AFP/IPDS datastreams and integrated with IBM Infoprint Manager and its powerful IBM RS/6000 server, the Infoprint 2000 Center Publisher with AFCCU (Advanced Function Common Control Unit) addresses the key e-business requirements of availability, security and scalability.

Via IBM Infoprint Manager, the printer converts PostScript and PCL jobs to AFP/IPDS and new software creates a central point for managing all print jobs through the enterprise as well as providing workload balancing.

Built-in support for IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) allows mobile users to address a printer from anywhere and allows companies to provide their clients with direct access to their printer.

Advanced imaging technology monitors and self-adjusts print quality and benchmarks AFP/IPDS print quality by producing fine lines and offset-like halftones.

Paper support and reliability is ensured with a straight paper path as well as three standard and three optional vacuum fed paper drawers. A 3,000-sheet stacker is a standard feature and an optional high capacity stacker accommodates an additional 5,000 sheets.

The Infoprint 4000 ID5/ID6 is designed for high volume continuous form production environments, enabling print speeds of up to 944 impressions-per-minute (ipm).

Its duplex printing system allows either 480 or 600 dots-per-inch (dpi) resolution and uses IBM`s patented Print Quality Enhancement (PQE) techniques for edge smoothing, fine fidelity protection, boldness control and print contrast.

This makes it possible to integrate customised charts, graphs, coupons and advertisements into black-and-white documents such as statements or invoices - turning them into marketing tools.

The ID5/ID6 also optimises a single application by allowing users to either print on the Infoprint 4000 or direct selected documents to a colour printer without having to change the application.
