The Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA) is calling for nominations for a councillor position, as Marcia Socikwa's four-year term comes to an end in March 2011.
policy or operations, public policy development, electronic engineering, and law.
Nominations for the position close on 18 October.
It is not yet known whether Socikwa will reapply for the position. The outgoing councillor was, among other things, responsible for the auctioning of spectrum in the 2.6GHz and 3.5GHz frequency bands.
However, the authority surprised the industry by canning the initial auction in favour of a more consultative process, which would be guided by a specialist spectrum auctioneer.
Socikwa and ICASA came under fire for the decision, as many felt the authority and the Department of Communications had succumbed to lobbying by the incumbents to keep out the smaller players.
