The Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA), the communications sector regulator, plans to conduct an ICT road show to inform young people about developments in the local ICT sector.
The road show presentations and exhibitions will take place at municipalities, district offices and local halls in Limpopo, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Free State. It will target unemployed graduates, school leavers and high school students, giving them information about ICT learnerships, bursaries and entrepreneurship opportunities.
ICASA has invited telecommunications and broadcasting companies Vodacom, Cell C, MTN, Telkom, Sentech, Real Pictures, the SABC, Umsombovu, MAPPP SETA and the Universal Service Agency to take part.
"ICASA hopes to encourage young people to study in the ICT field. We are focusing on the youth, as they lack these skills, and the industry needs more young people," says Vimla Maistry, ICASA media and stakeholder liaison manager.
"The youth will be told how to get into the industry, what qualifications they will require and the career opportunities that are available in the ICT sector. It will also give other stakeholders an opportunity to address the youth and provide information on what their companies do," says Maistry.
The activities are scheduled in the following areas:

9 February: Mapulaneng Campus, Arcornhoek, Bohlabela District Municipality
10 February: Jane Furse Comprehensive School, Sekhukhune District Municipality

14 February: Kwa Mashu township

16 February: Thaba-Nchu
