Irish Minister of State for Trade and Development, Jan O'Sullivan TD, will lead a trade mission to South Africa in November 2011. This trade mission will focus on opportunities in the telecoms, Internet, media and entertainment sectors.
Minister O'Sullivan knows that there is a growing interest among Irish companies in the South African market, which is increasingly seen as a hub for expansion into the rest of the sub-Saharan African markets. This interest is particularly strong among IT companies developing applications for mobile telecommunications and financial services.
The ECDL Foundation, based in Ireland, is the worldwide governing body and licensing authority for ECDL certification programmes. It sets the global standard in end-user computer skills certifications. ECDL consists of a set of IT qualification programmes ranging from entry level certifications such as EqualSkills to certifications aimed at intermediate and advanced computer users.
ICDL Africa, the official ECDL/ICDL Licensee for Sub-Saharan Africa, will meet with the minister, key government officials, as well as invited guests from the Western Cape Provincial Government, the City of Cape Town, Parliament, the UNDP, LRMG, the Cape Winelands Education District, the University of the Western Cape, Telkom and Siyafunda - all of which use ICDL as a valuable learning and development tool.
This meeting of minds is set to take place at the Cullinan Hotel, on 9 November, and will highlight and showcase the success of ICDL throughout Africa as well as host the minster's agenda of raising Ireland's profile as a trading partner in South Africa.
Since its introduction in 1997, ECDL has greatly contributed to the Irish economy and continues to do so throughout Africa, not only by way revenue, but ICDL ensures we have a workforce that is highly skilled with a higher earning potential.
ICDL is proud to host Minister O'Sullivan and expects the visit to strengthen ties between the two countries.
