ICL releases WebAsset Pro

Johannesburg, 13 Feb 2004

ICL has released WebAsset Pro, a powerful yet inexpensive desktop management solution that automates the creation and maintenance of an up-to-date inventory database of all IT assets.

WebAsset Pro is an additional module to WebAsset that can be sold either together with WebAsset or as a standalone dynamic IT Asset management application.

Management information provides details such as the number of computers on a network, quantifies missing hardware, lists operating systems installed and changes made to computer configurations. It automatically performs the otherwise tedious and time-consuming task of checking software and cross-referencing against licensed and unlicensed software.

It is possible to audit remote PCs without leaving the administration console. "Theft can be more easily monitored, while the legal compliance of software licensing is better managed," explained ICL product manager Sundra Pillay.

"This significantly reduces the time taken to audit computers by automatically detecting illegal software and managing software licences," he explained.

WebAsset Pro provides information on the type of assets installed, their locations, who is using them and how they where purchased.

Software definitions and management reports are output directly into Microsoft Excel. Alerts can be set to advise companies of hardware, software or environment changes, and a Network Detector checks the network for live PCs, servers and devices.

Other management reports include resource planning, budgeting, and risk and inventory management.

The software can be customised to include information on insurance contract details of assets such maintenance, warranty, service and leases, and can also be used for stocktaking," said Pillay.

"The software installs easily on a server or on a network, and can be deployed across a network using login scripts, e-mail, direct installation or by deployment as a service on Windows 2000/XP," explained Pillay.
