ICL, the e-business company, and Sentech, the broadband services supplier, have signed an agreement valued at R2.1 million for an integrated Sun solution to run their SAP/Informix ERP environment.
The solution, involving Sun`s latest quad-processor based 420R servers, attached to a Fibre Channel T3 Storage array was designed run Sentech`s mission critical ERP environment at lightning speed. The entire solution included a centralised backup server and Sun`s L9 Autoloader for peace of mind Disaster Recovery Procedures.
ICL was involved in the design, implementation and maintenance of the solution for Sentech.
Jasper Visser, IT Manager at Sentech, says: "We needed best of breed platforms for a customer care and billing solution in a turnkey project. Time was of the essence and after considering three top Unix vendors, we decided to partner with ICL."
An independent, fully commercial enterprise, Sentech is Africa`s largest broadcasting signal distribution network operator. It owns and operates some 500 television transmitters, as well as FM, medium and short-wave transmitters and satellite services. The company also provides turnkey network design and establishment.
The latest technology and Sun`s scalable architecture allows for quick future growth - a strategic benefit crucial to Sentech`s increasing involvement in multi-media applications.
