The Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa (IDC) and IT infrastructure and solution provider, Datacentrix, have teamed up to donate refurbished PCs, monitors and laptops to a number of institutions and organisations.
A total of 64 monitors, 55 laptops and 19 PCs, refurbished after IDC refreshed its equipment, have been donated to UNISA, the Township AIDS Project, Elandspoort High School and the GTZ Peace and Development project.
Says Ahmed Mahomed, Datacentrix Infrastructure MD: "As a socially responsible company, Datacentrix`s role in this joint venture with IDC has been to refurbish the IT equipment donated by IDC free-of-charge. We also committed to testing all equipment, changing parts as needed and generally making sure that the equipment is fully functional before it was deployed.
"As a South African company, Datacentrix feels that contribution to the generation of balanced, sustainable economic growth and the economic empowerment of the country`s people should be considered by all companies," he says.
IDC has been a long-term Datacentrix client, specifically in relation to the national development finance institution`s three-year server, SAN and backup project, which kicked off in 2001.
"Our relationship with IDC is that of a partnership," continues Mahomed. "By working together very closely for the past few years, and in light of this special project, Datacentrix has become a part of the IDC community."
