IDC lauds XIOtech growth

Storage Area Network (SAN) pioneer, XIOtech Corporation has been named by International Data Corporation as the fastest growing external disk storage vendor between 1999 and 2000 in the recently released draft version of the storage systems report, entitled "Worldwide Disk Storage Systems Management Forecast and Analysis, 1999-2005". XIOtech is a wholly owned Seagate subsidiary and locally represented by Smart Storage Technologies (SmartStor).

The report also forecasts XIOtech to increase its external disk storage system revenue in 2001 and to remain one of the fastest growing companies within this sector.

"The growth referred to in IDC's report came in a year when the total external disk storage systems market revenue was expected to drop more than 19 percent in supplier revenue," says Tony Life, executive director at SmartStor.

"XIOtech's continued growth, despite the industry's downward trend, is largely due to the value of virtualised storage within the MAGNITIDE architected SAN," he explains. "The MAGNITUDE was designed from the ground up to incorporate all the components of a SAN in one centralised, easy-to-manage, highly available configuration.

"Because it is cost-effective and easy-to-use, it makes more sense than ever before - in this tough economic climate - to purchase XIOtech's MAGNITUDE platform. SmartStor looks forward to seeing a continued growth in market for XIOtech in South Africa," Life concludes.
