IDC reports PC growth up 24%

The IDC has released the Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker report, which states the worldwide PC market grew 24.2% in the first quarter of 2010, writes DigiTimes.

The IDC says the renewed growth is due to continued in emerging markets, improved business sentiments, and growth of specialised designs like all-in-one PCs.

"The strong first quarter builds on the fourth quarter rebound and shows rising confidence in the PC supply chain and commercial client base along with persistent demand from consumers," says Loren Loverde, vice-president, IDC Worldwide Trackers.

HP releases TouchSmart PCs

HP has released the TouchSmart desktop PC line in the Philippines, says The Philippine Star.

The company says the TouchSmart has been positioned primarily for use in offices, homes and schools. However, a report from Gartner shows there is a slow adoption of touch-enabled PCs in enterprises.

“What we're going to see is the younger generation beginning to use touchscreen computers ahead of enterprises,” says Leslie Fiering, Gartner research vice-president. By 2015, the research company predicts more than 50% of PCs purchased for under-15s to have touchscreen technology.
