Identive unveils NFC smartphone stickers

Secure ID specialist Identive has introduced a near field communications (NFC) tag that can stick onto a mobile device and allows consumers to make contactless payments, NFC World reports.

The TomPay sticker is based on the company's "tag on metal" inlay technology and its peel-and-stick form factor allows it to be manufactured using the same processes as a standard PVC card.

The TomPay card is compliant with MasterCard's PayPass contactless specs and also supports loyalty or reward programmes, Mobile Payments Today states.

Manfred Mueller, COO of identification products for Identive, says: "Identive's strong roots in both security and RFID technologies give us particular insight into the needs of the payment industry, and the addition of this offering underscores our focus on mobile payment solutions.”

According to Identive, it developed its tag on metal technology to overcome the issues inherent to RFID performance, as mobile phone components can be adversely affected by exposure to metal, Market Watch says.

Indentive says that, over the next few years, there will be an opportunity for payment solutions that bridge existing phones with NFC-enabled devices.
