Johannesburg, 25 Feb 2004

IDION Technology Holdings` subsidiary Vision Solutions, a leading managed availability solutions provider, yesterday announced that it is collaborating with IBM on its Autonomic Computing initiative, and is one of the first IBM business partners to adopt the groundbreaking new technologies.

These technologies will create a new way of managing systems and the architecture will lay the foundation for an autonomic, self-healing infrastructure that will help users to perform problem determination and remediation more quickly and easily.

This collaboration includes the design elements and implementation of the Common Base Event format, a basis for standardised exchange of problem determination data via Web services. Common Base Event was recently introduced by IBM as a common format for log/trace information.

"IBM is committed to working with companies like Vision Solutions to incorporate autonomic computing technologies based on open standards into their products," said David Bartlett, director, Autonomic Computing, IBM.

"IBM is making these technologies available in our new Autonomic Computing Toolkit to accelerate adoption in the industry, with the objective of enabling dramatic improvements in our customers` ability to perform problem determination. We are delighted that Vision Solutions is taking a leadership role in adopting autonomic computing technologies."

"We are pleased to be one of the first IBM Business Partners to collaborate with IBM in work on their autonomic computing technologies," said Dave Brown, chief scientist of Vision Solutions. "ORION is built with XML-based standards that easily incorporate autonomic architectures that when implemented using the Common Base Event format. The integration of these new Autonomic Standards and Utilities with ORION`s Cross Platform Clustering Project will offer a best of breed monitoring and self-healing solution that will simplify enterprise service management, adding value by enabling customers to monitor and manage their own systems more easily and effectively."
