Vision Solutions, a leader in information availability management and an IBM Premier Business Partner, announced on 1 May its plans to support IBM`s new OS/400 V5R1 with the release of a new version of its award-winning software Vision Suite - Vision Suite OMS/400 V7.5 - in early fourth quarter 2001.
Vision Suite OMS/400 V7.5 will complement V5R1, giving customers increased ease-of-use and functionality on IBM`s eServer iSeries (AS/400). The first Limited Release of OMS/400 V7.5 will be available on 25 May.
Technology Benefits
V5R1 and Vision Suite OMS/400 V7.5 offer valuable benefits to both IBM and Vision Solutions customers. In particular, Vision Suite OMS/400 V7.5 will provide the following companion support to IBM`s V5R1:
Removable "ASPs" or device clusters - introducing "switchable" independent disks or disk towers in a clustered environment allowing users the ability to switch applications or data residing on those disks to a backup system, a much more rapid process than switching an entire system.
Journal minimal data - permitting users to record only the changed portion of data within a record and reducing the bandwidth required to replicate changes to a backup system. This is a significant benefit when replicating large objects (LOBs) up to a couple of Gigabytes in size.
Extended LOBs support - enabling OMS/400 to provide high availability for applications that store large complex objects directly in the database.
Improved data area and data queue journaling support -streamlining the OMS/400 replication process and eliminating the need for specific programs to intercept operating system commands.
