IDS Scheer expands solution portfolio for enterprise architecture management

ARIS Platform receives TOGAF framework-certification and simplifies Web-based, decentralised management of IT systems.
Saarbruecken, 02 Sep 2008

IDS Scheer, the international solution provider for business processes and IT, was recently awarded TOGAF Support Tool certification status for its ARIS Solution for Enterprise Architecture Management.

This move enables IDS Scheer to fulfil the needs of many clients by supporting the world's most commonly used framework for building a corporate architecture (enterprise architecture).

Developing an efficient enterprise architecture makes it possible to document, manage and analyse complex structures and establish a connection between corporate strategy, business processes and IT systems.

As a result, it is possible to achieve sustainable cost reductions in relation to the development, support and maintenance of IT systems over both the medium and long-term. Leading IT analysts such as Gartner and Forrester position IDS Scheer among the market leaders for enterprise architecture management and enterprise business process management.

As a member of The Open Group - an independent organisation focusing on open standards and global interoperability within and between companies - IDS Scheer now drives the TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework). The recent TOGAF certification awarded for the ARIS Platform will enable customers to develop a corporate architecture (enterprise architecture) based on the globally recognised standard framework, in combination with the industry-leading ARIS Solution for Enterprise Architecture Management, in order to achieve optimum IT support for business processes.

IDS Scheer is also launching ARIS IT Inventory - a new core product within the ARIS Solution for Enterprise Architecture Management. This solution helps companies to plan their IT landscapes and their alignment to the business within a process-based environment. Knowledge of corporate processes and business-critical IT systems is key to deliver an effective centralised application management approach within complex IT landscapes in order to ensure the impact of IT on business is understood and successfully managed.

The new ARIS IT Inventory product enhances the solution, with the addition of a Web-based, user-friendly maintenance component for applications, technologies and infrastructure information. This new feature, designed to allow the publication of IT system information via the Intranet, provides users with Web-based input screens to maintain application and technology data. System administrators and developers have a role-based access to IT system data from the centralised ARIS Repository via a user-friendly portal; the data can then be modified quickly and easily. The scalability of ARIS IT Inventory for large user groups makes it possible to quickly generate decentralised IT system inventories, while supporting the simultaneous processing of system data and descriptions by multiple users.

The ARIS Platform then uses this IT system inventory to produce a complete IT planning environment with an integrated database, the ARIS Repository. Companies are now able to keep information about their IT landscape up-to-date at all times and produce future-proof development plans. This enables them to respond in a flexible and agile way to changing market situations and continuously boost their performance.

Dr Wolfram Jost, member of the Executive Board with responsibility for Product Strategy and Development of IDS Scheer, reveals: "For IDS Scheer as a key player in the enterprise architecture environment, TOGAF certification was the next logical step toward extending the company's position in the market. ARIS IT Inventory helps IT architects to develop TOGAF-compliant corporate architectures.

This allows companies to benefit from cost savings, as it is possible to design IT life cycles more efficiently, enhance IT-based business processes and increase overall transparency; in turn, these things help companies to continuously boost their performance."
