IFS South Africa is currently investigating offering JD Edwards users in SA a rescue plan by providing them with a cost-effective migration route to IFS Applications.
The move follows the announcement that IFS in North America is offering JD Edwards customers an opportunity to move to IFS Applications without paying upfront licence fees.
"We`re looking at implementing a similar programme here in SA," says Paul Whalley, managing director of IFS South Africa.
Before doing so, however, the company plans to talk to JDE customers to determine their needs and evaluate the best way to meet them.
"Like JDE, our sweet spot is the mid-market. At a time when these companies are facing ever-increasing demands in a global marketplace, they must be able to depend on their enterprise software provider," he adds.
"Our component-based technology makes migration to an IFS platform a rapid cost-effective process because of reduced integration hassles."
In North America, JDE customers can replace their current software licence with selected IFS financial, manufacturing, distribution and engineering components. As part of the programme, participating companies will also sign a three-year agreement that covers support and maintenance costs for only $1 000 per named user per year.
"Considering the widely reported fear and uncertainty surrounding the PeopleSoft and Oracle acquisition plans, we are providing JDE customers with a sound alternative," commented Michael Nordin, president IFS North America.
"With sales in 45 countries, and with the strong, global capabilities of IFS Applications, IFS is uniquely able to provide the safe haven customers are looking for. We`re confident our component technology will allow us to get JDE customers up and running quickly and cost-effectively without disrupting business operations."
The program is limited to customers in a number of manufacturing industry segments where IFS has a long history of leadership. These industries include: automotive suppliers, defence suppliers, electronic components, electronic equipment, fabricated metal products, food and beverage, machinery manufacturing, medical devices, metal industries, paint and adhesives, pharmaceuticals, plastic product manufacturing, semiconductor and shipbuilding
IFS develops and supplies component-based business applications for medium and large enterprises and organisations. IFS Applications, which can be implemented step by step, is based on Web and portal technology. The solution offers 60+ enterprise application components used in manufacturing, supply chain management, customer relationship management, service provision, financials, product development, maintenance and human resource administration. IFS offers customers an easier, more open alternative.
