IM conquers e-mail

A recent online survey by Parks Associates shows youths prefer instant messaging (IM) to e-mail, reports TMCNet.

The survey, " Media Habits", found less than one-fifth of people aged 13 to 17 use e-mail as their primary communication method with friends, compared with nearly 40% of adults aged 25 to 54.

Asian research predicts IM future

LogicaCMG Telecoms conducted research among delegates at this year's MessagingAsia Conference Forum, which found 65% of respondents believe the success of IM depended on interoperability with IM domains, says earthtimes.org.

The research, conducted with 40 senior figures from the mobile industry in Asia, also showed that 45% wanted to see a common mobile IM community established across operator networks using mobile phone numbers as identifiers.

Respondents stressed this integration needs to go beyond the user experience and even includes revenue share of the services offered.

Camera phones increase photo messaging

Photo messaging has increased as camera phones become more popular, reports Tech Digest.

The new report from M:Metrics also found people with higher quality cameras in their phones were more likely to send photos via messaging (51.8%) than those with VGA (28%) or lower quality resolutions(22.3%).

The survey also showed that 84% of mobile users in the UK sent SMSes, 29.7% used photo messaging, 15% browsed for news and information and 5.7% purchased ring tones.
