Imfundo Technologies, a reseller for broad based ICT distributor Pinnacle Micro, has secured a contract with Cape-based West Coast College to supply four Supermicro file servers and 88 Proline workstations. The servers and workstations were distributed among campuses in Atlantas, Citrusdal, Vredendal and Vredenberg.
Pinnacle Micro, part of the JSE-listed Pinnacle Technology Holdings Group (PTH), last year announced its plans to focus more aggressively on the local server marketplace, following the signing of a distribution agreement with NASDAQ-listed Super Micro Computer Inc.
According to Tim Humphreys-Davies, national sales and marketing director at Pinnacle Micro, one server each was supplied to the Citrusdal, Atlantas, Vredendal and Vredenberg campuses. Fifteen Proline workstations were supplied to Atlantas, 25 to Vredenberg, 20 to Vredendal and 28 to Citrusdal.
The computer equipment was supplied as part of the SETA 153 Server hardware contract.
Humphreys-Davies said that while the company was targeting the corporate market with its Supermicro servers, it is also "increasingly eyeing the government sector".
"From a price performance point of few we have a lot of confidence in the Supermicro range. We have, since the fourth quarter of last year, invested a lot of money to build our sales and marketing platform, including the appointment of 28 resellers, who are scattered throughout South Africa."
He said the company also decided to "separately brand" its range of Supermicro servers, adding that he believes the company's market share will increase dramatically during the next 24 months.
"We have invested in our reseller programme. Our resellers are geared and ready to sell - and provide expert back-up service. We also have the geographical footprint; and we are already seeing the sales numbers increasing."
Pinnacle Micro is regarded as the engine room of PTH, providing more than R1 billion of group revenue for the year ended June 2007. Total revenue generated was R1.72 billion.
