Impotek Group Holdings acquires Belfry Systems

Johannesburg, 18 Nov 1998
Belfry Systems, the Cape Town based network solution provider, has been acquired by JSE listed Impotek Holdings, it was announced today. The synergy created by this buy out will benefit both companies. Belfry joins Impotek subsidiaries Triadic, Tswelepole, Data Energy, Impotek Midrange, Impotek Networking and Rensel Technologies and will provide the group with a strong presence in the Western Cape.

"Impotek's ability to deliver holistic solutions by offering a diverse range of information technology and services has been further strengthened through the acquisition of Belfry Systems (Pty) Ltd" said Impotek Group Holdings CEO Ron Sackstein

Managing Director of Belfry Systems Dave Cooke commented: "There are some very strong benefits for both companies. The deal will give Belfry a presence in 15 major towns and cities around South Africa through Impotek, allowing us to provide improved service levels to our national clients. We will also obviously have access to an even greater product range which will add to the scope of our business providing extensive benefits and value to our customers."

Established in 1994, Cape Town based Belfry Systems identified a strong need for quality service addressing end-user requirements combined with the ability to provide professional solutions in integrated networking. From the outset it was Belfry's intention to focus on small and medium sized companies, providing a complete circle of services. In the market sector, the company has made big inroads into the Western Cape, creating a solid reputation in the industry. For the past two years, the company has been one of the top IBM dealers in the Western Cape.

"To become a leading network supplier, it was clear that Belfry Systems had to differentiate itself from competing companies in three areas, namely professionalism in business conduct, quality of service, and cost efficiency of solutions. It is clear that the market place is moving in the direction of quality service and that whilst prices are dropping, unfortunately so is the level of service provided by many or the larger computer companies. Our company aims to ensure that customers enter into a relationship with Belfry because of its reputation for quality service", said Cooke.

Financial and Sales Director Tinus Lamprecht provided further comment: "There is no doubt that this is a mutually beneficial agreement. From our first meetings with Impotek management it was clear that there were some excellent reasons why we should join their group. Belfry will continue to operate as normal, allowing us to retain our own unique culture and enabling us to continue producing strong results which will contribute to the group performance."

Belfry provides high-end specialised networking solutions on both LAN and WAN as well as voice-over-data and back up solutions. The company also specialises in Internet development, change control and e-business skills as well as network design and implementation. I t also has the skills to provide LAN integration with platforms such as Unix, Novell, NT and Cisco. The new structure will provide Belfry with an expanded product range including IBM S/390, AS/400, RS6000 as well as access to cabling services and repair centres.

From the Impotek perspective, the group will now have a strong foothold in the growing Western Cape market. Belfry Systems is an established company which will enhance the Impotek presence and provide further growth opportunities.
