IMS provides total solution for Sony South Africa

Local IT services specialist, Independent Maintenance Services (IMS), recently provided a complete computing and networking infrastructure for Sony South Africa.

When Sony South Africa moved into new offices in Bruma, Mervyn Ekron, Sony's MIS manager, was looking for a supplier that could provide a complete IT infrastructure. "We needed everything - PCs, cabling, networking, a dial-in solution - and it made sense to try and have one supplier do it all," he says. "We needed someone who could offer an end-to-end solution."

IMS proved it could do just that. Says Dave Adams, IMS MD: "We supply, install and maintain local and wide area networks with a range of products which have achieved international distinction. All our products are approved by Novell, OS/2 and Microsoft, including a wide range of PCs, from notebooks right up to IMS branded file servers."

After considering a number of different suppliers, Sony contracted IMS based on its ability to offer a flexible business solution. "The company gave us a lot of different options. Of all the suppliers, IMS was most open to meeting our particular requirements," explains Ekron.

The contract called for IMS to supply and install 7two file servers, 100 desktops, a number of AMS Tech notebooks, as well as R500 000 worth of network equipment and remote access servers.

The implementation was done in record time, says Ekron. "I've been more than happy with the implementation. Not only IMS, but its appointed subcontractors have proved to be exceptionally professional."

Says Adams: "IMS`s outstanding growth has been based on our firm belief in providing quality service and offering the most cost-effective solutions, customer satisfaction and long-term business relationships."

Adding to customer satisfaction is IMS's free disaster recovery service, which shortly after implementation was put on trial with Sony. "We needed a supplier that can be there an hour later, even on Sunday morning if there's a problem," notes Ekron. "Shortly after we moved in, we had 24 PCs stolen and only three hours later, IMS was here with backup systems."

IMS also offers a sophisticated level of nation-wide maintenance conducted by its teams of qualified technicians.
