Increased demand for hosting at Internet Solutions due to load-shedding

IS gearing up to meet customer needs
Johannesburg, 05 Feb 2008

Internet Solutions (IS), the country's leading independent ISP, is gearing up for the steady increase in demand for hosting facilities from both existing and new customers.

Greg Montjoie, Hosting Business Unit Manager, says IS installed more hosting space in 2007 than in the previous 10 years in existence.

"With the Eskom load-shedding impacting our customers' own in-house facilities, our data centre space is being consumed at an unprecedented rate, as people look for stable, clean power," he said. "To facilitate this demand, our operations teams have been working round the clock to get the IS data centres expanded and built to complete installations as fast as possible."

The current Bryanston facility is being upgraded, and visitors will have seen the new power centre being built on the eastern side of The Campus. The Bryanston data centre is being expanded to give additional floor space - all of which is scheduled to be completed by the first week of February.

"These expansions have been absolutely necessary," says Montjoie. "Our installs teams are also gearing up for the increase in new installations, once the new power plant is operational. We have planned for this and intend to minimise installation time as we have pre-prepped servers ready and waiting."

Montjoie added that the Rosebank data centre has also been included in the expansion plans. "We have purchased the Parklands building next door to the current facility and will have additional space available in the first week in March. Other plans are in place to expand Rosebank even further in the near future as those customers expand and upgrade."
