Independent - without losing contact - the HP way

Johannesburg, 16 Jul 2003

Independence from the bounds of an office is becoming a necessity for many business people who need to work in a variety of locations. These workers need to connect to the office and corporate networks from various places via different means.

Providing for both of these requirements, Tarsus Technologies has announced the national availability of the HP Compaq Business Notebook nx9000.

"The nx9000 provides enhanced connectivity options as well as autonomy for the advanced mobile professional," says Jason McMillan, PSG, business manager at Tarsus. "The integrated wireless LAN - 802.11b - provides users with the freedom and convenience to work when and where they want, while the mobile Intel Pentium 4-M processor running at 2GHz handles even the most demanding business applications with ease."

The slim notebook weighs in at only 2.95kg and features all the functionality necessary for mobile productivity, including Intel`s Enhanced SpeedStep technology to assist in maximising battery life for those occasions when an electrical outlet is not available. The standard memory configuration of 256MB of Double Data Rate (DDR) SDRAM can be expanded to 1GB, and users have the option of a 30GB or 40GB hard drive as well as a DVD or DVD/CD-RW combo drive

Apart from the wireless LAN, additional connectivity options built into the system include a 10/100 NIC interface and a 56K (V.92) modem. "With the nx9000, you need never be out of contact," adds McMillan. "All the components are built according to industry standards, ensuring users can easily plug in and connect to the world."

Additional support for the mobile worker can be found in the system`s broad range of expansion ports. The nx9000 sports Firewire (IEEE1394), parallel, serial, 2x USB 1.1, S-video out, VGA, PS/2 and two Type-II or one Type-III PC Card slots, plus the award winning ATI Radeon IGP Graphics Controller (4X AGP) that is user configurable with up to 64MB of DDR SDRAM.

Whether in the office or on the road, the HP nx9000 provides business users with all the computing power they need as well as all the connectivity to support a truly mobile workforce.
