Indian state gets green tech centres
“These centres will introduce people in villages to various environment-friendly practices, products and services,” said R Ajayakumar Varma of the Centre for Earth Science Studies, Thiruvananthapuram, who is coordinating the project.
Each centre will disseminate information on green practices and products. In addition, the centres will also help people in the host villages adopt green practices and will provide them with post purchase support.
If a particular green product such as a rainwater harvesting system stops working, the staff of the Green Technology Centre should be able to repair it, he explained.
'Go Green' should be the slogan of the coming days, said minister for Panchayats MK Muneer at the unveiling of the Green Technology Centres, notes IBN Live.
These GTCs will function as a source of information on the latest developments in green technologies, showcase green technology devices and maintain a workshop to repair the various green technology devices.
“The launch of these green technology hubs will definitely mark the beginning of a massive change in the state. It will have far-reaching implications as green technology will find applications in various sectors, be it solar lighting, construction materials and even waste management” said Muneer.
Conceived by a team of scientists under CTS Nair, who formerly headed the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment, these technology centres are aimed at narrowing the gap between technology generation and adoption.
