StorageTek`s 9840 tape drive has received broad industry support from independent software vendors (ISVs) and systems vendors. ISVs which have participated in StorageTek`s certification program for the 9840 are: ADIC (Advanced Digital Information Corp); Beta Systems Software; CommVault Systems; Innovation Data Processing; Legato Systems.; Mobius Management Systems; New Dimension Software; SEA-Software Engineers of America; Spectra Logic Corp; Sterling Software; UniTree Software Inc; and Veritas Software.
Below are statements from companies in support of the 9840:
Legato
The 9840 will revolutionise the tape drive market, and we`re pleased to be part of the effort behind bringing this leading-edge technology to customers. StorageTek`s 9840 offers performance, in terms of both throughput and fast access to data, previously unavailable to users. For customers with huge amounts of data and very tight backup windows, the performance of the 9840 will give them a way to get the job done right. With Networker and the 9840, customers can be confident that they can restore their mission-critical Unix and Windows NT data whenever they need it, no questions asked. Rich Wendroff, GM, Strategic Storage Partners, Legato
Veritas
The 9840 will radically alter the way the open systems market thinks of tape and will offer users a vastly improved drive technology to use with our storage management applications. The balanced capabilities of the 9840, which combines performance, fast access, capacity and mainframe-class reliability in one drive, makes it an ideal match with our high-performance storage management applications. Gary Lyng, Director of Product Management, Veritas
Silicon Graphics
A large number of our customers manage hundreds of Terabytes to multiple Petabytes of mission-critical data in their enterprises. The key ingredients to successful management of these large volumes of data are:
a comprehensive storage management strategy;
a highly scalable storage management application that provides positive, verifiable safety of data;
very high-bandwidth I/O architecture that provides rapid storage and retrieval of data from Nearline repositories;
peripherals that complement the requirements of successful data management.
With its very fast access to first byte of data, its bandwidth, and its cartridge capacity, the 9840 is a perfect fit. I view the product as another generation of StorageTek`s highly successful tape drive product offerings. StorageTek`s 9840 will continue to raise the capacity, performance and reliability bar. I expect the product to be very key in our customers` storage management strategies. Pat Hughes, Storage and Networking Marketing, Silicon Graphics
ADIC
With its ability to act much more like a random access device than most tape drives, the 9840 opens up new possibilities with our AMASS software. Our customers manage anywhere from Gigabytes to mutliple Petabytes of data and use the AMASS software to archive data and to access active data that resides on tape rather than disk. The fast access capabilities of the 9840, along with its high throughput and mainframe-class reliability, make it ideal for the random access requests generated by our software when it is being used as an extension to disk. A number of AMASS customers use StorageTek hardware, and these customers are very excited to have 9840 support available with our software. Joint StorageTek and AMASS customers will benefit from this innovative new technology.
Robert C Clark, VP, Marketing and Software Business Development
Unisys
With the performance and reliability we have seen so far with the 9840, we believe our system integration process will take about 90 days, a significant improvement on our time to market. In addition, with Unisys`s large installed base of StorageTek libraries, the significant capabilities of the 9840 provide our customers with a compelling reason to migrate to the performance and capacity of the 9840.
