VERITAS Software Corporation continues to lead the backup and recovery software market and the storage management market for volume management/virtualisation software.
According to a new Gartner report, VERITAS Software led the market for Unix and Windows server backup products with 48.4% share, representing market share growth of 30% year over year. In the volume management and virtualisation market, VERITAS was also ranked number one with 79.9% share in 2001 based on revenue.

Overall storage management market
VERITAS Software is the non-array-based storage software leader with 30% market share - a 12% lead over the nearest competitor. According to Gartner Dataquest, VERITAS Software`s 2001 new licence sales increased by 13.7% over 2000, while the worldwide storage software market grew at only 3%. Backup and recovery software
When all platforms are included, VERITAS Software is the 2001 market share leader in the worldwide backup and recovery software market based on revenue with 40.8% market share and 25% growth over 2000, the strongest growth of the top 10 vendors.

According to Dan Kusnetzky, IDC`s vice president of system software research, VERITAS Software is expected to be the leader in clustering and availability software for 2001. From 1999 to 2000, VERITAS Software had the strongest growth of the top five vendors at 121%.
