Fujitsu Siemens Computers PRIMEPOWER Unix server achieves world record performance

Fujitsu Siemens Computers has proudly announced that PRIMEPOWER 2500, the high-end model of its PRIMEPOWER server line, achieved a new world record in the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC [1] Java Business Benchmark 2005 (SPECjbb 2005), with performance of 1 157 619 business operations per second [2].

The benchmark test was done under the leadership of Fujitsu, which achieved the record with a 128-way PRIMEPOWER 2500 server using SPARC64 V processors, an internally developed high-performance, highly reliable processor, operating at 2.08GHz. The results were made public on 25 January 2006 by the SPEC.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers also announced the immediate availability of processor enhancements for the PRIMEPOWER entry-level and mid-range platforms. The PRIMEPOWER 250 and 450 servers now come with 1.65GHz/3M Second Level Cache and 1.98GHz/3M SLC SPARC64 V processor options.

For the PRIMEPOWER 650 and 850 servers, a 2.16GHz/4M SLC SPARC64 V processor option is available. With both, the enhanced clock rates and enlarged second level caches, noticeable price/performance improvements are reached and PRIMEPOWER innovation leadership continues.

The PRIMEPOWER family of servers, from 2-processor systems through 128-processor systems, are leading the way in the field of Unix severs with their outstanding performance records. This leading position in terms of performance is accompanied by an outstanding level of data processing reliability in the Unix RISC server market. PRIMEPOWER servers are not only suited for general use, but also for meeting the requirements of data centres and server consolidation. They offer an ideal range of product features in terms of flexibility, reliability, performance and scalability while meeting the constant demand for reductions in overall costs. PRIMEPOWER servers are one of the key building blocks that support the Fujitsu Siemens Computers Dynamic Data Centre strategy for optimising IT.

SPECjbb2005 is a benchmark test developed by the SPEC to evaluate the performance of servers running Java-based applications. It simulates the processing of actual wholesale industry business tasks, such as ordering, shipping, receipts and payment processing, inventory management and customer data management. Thus, the results can be used as an index of processing performance that reflects real-world business operations.
