CobiT is about to be updated to version 4.0 after extensive research and development by a global group of researchers, experts and volunteers.
The IT Governance Institute through its CobiT Steering Committee has continuously evolved the CobiT body of knowledge. Over the past two years the committee has led research into several detailed aspects of the control objectives and the management guidelines of CobiT version 3.0.
The results of these activities were fed to a number of large workshops of 40 to 50 international experts focusing on the control objectives, management guidelines and maturity model components of the framework. The CobiT Steering Committee consolidated all results and an exposure draft, sent to more than 90 specialists, completed the production process.
A new feature in CobiT 4.0 is the RACI charts (who is responsible, accountable, consulted and informed) to address process roles and responsibilities for each IT process. Companies will find these RACI charts a useful start to process definition and documentation. Enterprise architecture principles are now explained within the framework linking business goals, resources, information and processes.
Performance measure is a cornerstone of good governance and of CobiT version 4. Business goals, IT goals and process goals are linked and together with key performance indicators and key management provide a consistent and comprehensive approach to performance measurement.
The more concise, contemporary and action-oriented language used in CobiT version 4.0 makes the document more readable. The control objectives and management guideline content have been combined by IT process and the detailed control objectives refined to eliminate overlaps across the processes. The system security process now has half the number of detailed controlled objectives. This does not mean the other detailed control objectives have been removed, except when duplicated. The framework is now more easily understood. Much of the material of CobiT version 3.0 has been consolidated and refined into one document for CobiT version 4.0.
As a result of these new features and changed, Info Sec Africa the leader in CobiT training, has recently updated all its CobiT seminars and is the first training organisation to offer CobiT version 4.0 compliant training in SA.
Peter Hill, a director of Info Sec Africa, says our advantage is that the training we provide is based on practical experience gained from working with CobiT since 1996. We provide participants who attend our educational events with thorough, well-researched events that are conducted by CobiT trainers with considerable practical experience and a thorough knowledge of the CobiT material, its development and application.
